Bring a can of starting fluid with you and see if it fires. The seller might have hacked the ignition because of a blown head gasket, which a compression test might not indicate. Could be looking at a cracked block. Hope for the best. but expect the worst. You can test the coil with an ohm meter, just to check. A noid light will let you know if the injectors are firing at all.
You really need to do a compression leak down test to determine the mechanical health of the engine.
I walked away from the sale. There was no spark. The electrical was destroyed under the dash. A mouse or something had destroyed every bit of wiring in there. When you left the door open the door ding would go off, then stop, then start beeping constantly, then stop, then ding, then stop. It would turn over then stop turning over, then start again. The compression was good, but virtually everything electrical was no-go. Wiring is not my forte and I know when I’m in over my head.
Since you are no longer interested, Would you mind sending me the sellers contact info? I am a retired electrical engineer. And I may be able to get it low enough to justify repairing the wiring.
Thanks
Good call. A destroyed wiring harness isn't an easy job to anyone who isn't already gutting it for a full restore or race car build. Keep looking, deals are out there, you'll find one eventually!
I agree... Smart move. Have you ever taken a vette dash apart? The wiring harness is a HUGE deal back there...Very time consuming to replace. Don't know if you could ever get it to factory specs....
