Help my car is missing at high RPM and backfiring. I'm not sure what it is but I was thinking maybe the optispark. The car has 118000 miles and as far as I know it's the original opti. I don't think it's the plugs or plugwires becouse I changed them last year. Thanks in advance. :D
Check your fuel pressure. Opti is widely misconcieved as the culprit every time. You will notice many people change 2 optis and still have problems, although with your mileage it is a possibility. heres a quick list to check...
Fuel pump (check pressure)
Coil may be faulty
Opti >>>> with the backfiring this may be the problem.
Id start by checking fuel pressure at the rails under a load, (going down the road when it is missing) If it is dropping Id change the fuel filter first.

i am still fighting this same problem myself, and have already changed opti, coil, wires...plugs are a year old...fuel pressure looked ok when i hooked up a guage and drove around, but i may try that again. let us know if you figure out your problem. BTW...if you ease up to high rpm does it run ok with no backfiring, mine only does that on a WOT run to high rpm.
You might consider having your injectors R&R'd. They could be dribbling instead of atomizing.
If the missing just started and in the near future you start noticing the idle jumping around, then budget for an opti (with 118K maybe you want to do this anyway).
If the missing/backfiring stays high RPM only, then I would suspect the coil/module.
