Default Running about 600 HP on the 700 r4

Anybody else run some real power through the 700r4 trans and stock rear ?

Should I expect this thing to blow ? Seems to be fine so far....? Knock on wood

Any trans will eventually...whaddya got thats making 600?
700s can be built up but it costs. Id look at a 4l80e...even a stock Turbo 400 can handle some abuse those are tough but will still need upgrades. If you dont have to have OD something to think about

On a stock 700R4, I put in an LPE 383 and it toasted the trans in 9 months with me babying it. It was a fresh rebuild too but from GM. I am now making 420 RWHP and it is a Rossler built trans that was able to take the beating I would dish out every time I got to an on ramp. As to the rear end, on a D36, I didn't make it work well. It broke a tooth. With a D44 and 3.54 ratio, it seems to be ok. Granted all will break but a D36 will faster if you beat it. Slicks? Forget it.

Hi
I run a blower and have been through many turbo700 transmissions, even with all the expensive stuff using heavy duty 89 T700 they don't last long.
The D36 has only recently got noisy, apart from twisted half shafts all good.
That although is no 600hp though, i expect a T700 and D36 to expire very quickly with 600hp.

My 700R is holding the power still, I know I'm not at 600 rwhp. I get lots of clutch wear, but I change the trans filter/oil every season or 6000 miles. The oil and transmission filters for the 700R is cheap probably around $30-40 bucks. I'm running a stock converter and slightly modified 700R. I'm running a LQ9 and dyno at 400rwhp mark and dana 36 with 2.73 gears, been running this combo for around 12000 miles now. I'm in the process of rebuilding my dana 36 this winter, just cause I want too. I should be less than $100 to rebuild.the dana 36. I'm just planning on putting in new rear diff clutches into it and changing the oil.

My stocker was giving up the 1-2 shift behind the 398ci on the 88, but the 86s 700 lasted a year behind the 398 without a single issue before she was totaled.

When the 1-2 shift went I had it replaced by a ProBuilt 700 with PI Vigilante.

I plan to drive the D36 until it explodes, and its been 5 years in this car without a problem. I stand on it occasionally to clean the valves but don't race anymore. I'd never run slicks but with street driving it should last a long time.

What matters is the RWTQ number, not the HP. Torque breaks ****.

I can't speak to 600 hp , but my big turbo Buick GN had many passes on the track with no tranny issues at all.

PS : I beat many C4's back in the day, and have the trophy's to prove it. after all, a Buick could Never have more HP than a Corvette, LOL. My turbo looked stock from the outside, but Turbonetics in CA made sure it wasn't.

Can I quote Smokey Yunick (RIP) here? The road to a fast car is paved with the parts of destruction from weak combinations. And it costs 5 times as much to build a 600hp sbc than a 500hp sbc.

What I'm saying is above 500hp the need for specialty parts will prove itself whether you believe it or not.

Proven transmissions that can handle 600hp are the th400 and powerglide. Kinda short list. Sure performance transmission companies will sell something less as strong that has their rating for high horsepower but usually the cost is greater than a th400 or PG conversion.

Just my 2 cents and good luck.

I don't know what hp level I'm at; enough for 10.20's and 1.35 60' times. I went through many 700r4s and a couple of 4l60es until I hooked up with Carl Rossler for my current 4l60e. I've had it for over 5 years. Have had about 700 runs on it and other than a broken hardened input shaft, the tranny has been flawless. The hardened shaft has been replaced with a billet shaft. I change the fluid every year with Amsoil Super Shift. So far so good (knock on wood).

When I bought mine it was around $3800 shipped. I can't tell you how much I paid for a number of pos trannies prior to the Rossler. Wish I had called him 15 years ago.

I think he was particular in you sending him your core since he felt it fit better or so I thought he was saying. Why don't you ask him about your Silverado transmission? He might be able to strengthen it up. He took my 700R4 and made it so I could beat on it several times a day. 3.5 years later, the sun shell gear broke. Insides still looked very good. http://www.rosslertrans.com/

Maybe he can get you a better trans so you don't have to keep rebuilding this Silverado or C4
