Default stroking question

I've had an idea bouncing around in my head for the last few days. I've got an opportunity to purchase a 327 crank and block i great condition for ~$200. Would it be worthwhile to put the 327 crank into a 400 block, making a 352, I think? I read one post about someone else doing it and they achived impressive results. You would get a strong bottom end by getting rid of the cast crank without spending all the money on a new forged crank, and your not losing any displacment. Good/bad idea?? Your thoughts and input would be appreciated

This would give you a high reving motor that would work well at the track but be a challenge on the road. Its called destroking. I'm by no means an expert though so I would post this in the engine section.

If you like high rpm motors that make serious horse power, DO IT! I've built several of these and they are very impressive. With the short stroke you rev live the old 302's, and with that big bore you still make as mch if not more than a 350 will. The one thing that is missing is low end torque. It almost doesn't exsist! But with the right gears and, if you run an auto, a higher stall you will not miss it! :D The driveability is great as long as you stay on the mild side with the cam, but if you go with a cam capable of giving it a 7500+rpm range you will have to have steep gears and also at least a 3500rpm convertor to make it drivable street wise. I've never worried about high stalls or big cams on the street or even low gears. If I'm running these componants then the car is purpose built for rapid acceleration not road trips, and I will just plan on 60-65 mpr highway speed instead of 70-80mph. I'm currently building a +.030 400 block with a 3" stroke crank(326ci) engine for my dads 32 chevy sedan. He's got a set of my old brodix -8 raised runner aluminum heads and holley strip dominator intake, .560lift 252*dur@.050 solid cam, 11-1 ross pistons. I'm hoping for 575-600 fwhp@8000 rpm! The car will see limited street driving and a lot of nostalgia racing! Gotta love dad, he's quite the gearhead yet!(63 years young)

Like theyve said, itll rev very high.

Youll just have to pick the right cam, and add a good TC/low rear gear for the right low end torque.
