Default Wiper issue

1996 CE wipers do not shut off with switch. Turn on fine. Would it be the mechanism in the stalk? Does the whole stalk need to be replaced? Could it be wiring? Have not taken anything apart yet. Thanks.

1st place I would check would be the connections at the motor under the hood. With the wipers running in the off position move the connectors and see if that causes anything. I would also check the motor contact as they are a high wear item. Not sure where the column switch connects but I think before I tore it apart I would connect a known good switch as a test. Sorry I wasn't more help.
