Default Heads and Cam

I was thinking of buying the lingenfelter ported LT1 heads and one of his cams. What gains can i expect and will it still pass emissions. I know its pricey so are there any other more cost effective heads to buy else where. I know lingenfelter quality can't be beat. Oh and my mother says i forgot question marks ??????. Thanks.

LT4 Hotcam kit and have your heads ported, you might come out cheaper.

Lingenfelter makes good products that's for sure, but you really have to like them. A cam alone from him can cost $300. Personally it's not a good bang for the buck value.

How much horsepower are you looking for? Mine obviously isn't smog legal right now, but it could be with a little effort. I upgraded mine in stages, first stage was essnetially an LT4 Hot Cam kit. It wasn't purchased as a kit but I have all the same parts. That gave me 44 horsepower over stock and with proper tuning would have easily passed emissions. I added long tube headers and got another 23 hp, then finally heads for about 30 more. Total I'm making 365 at the rear wheels and it's not even properly tuned. I'm thinking I can get that number above 370 fairly easily.

Now mine isn't smog legal, so that's something to consider. If you stick with stock manifolds you will choke your car regardless. Emissions is all going to be in the cam. A cam with heads will pass as easily as a cam without heads if properly tuned. BTW does your emissions test require you to pass a visual inspection? If not then you can still run long tube headers into a set of bullet cats and you won't lose much horsepower at all over headers and no cats.

IMHO Lingenfelter makes a good product, but if you can spin a wrench and do your research you can beat his performance for the same price. I happen to know a good head shop, I kinda work for them. They did my heads and I think you would be very happy. We are not however a supporting vendor of this forum, so I will not talk about our products in open forum. If you are interested in what we have to offer just send me an IM or an e-mail and we'll discuss it further. In any case do your reasearch before making a final decision and you can beat Lingenfelter.
