1989 Master Cylinders
My ‘89 has dual master cylinders & I want to flush the system. Is the front reservoir for the front wheels & the rear reservoir for the rear wheels? If so, can I bleed each one individually? Also the front lid says “DOT 4” fluid & the rear lid says “DOT 3” fluid. Any insight is appreciated.

I have never heard of different fluids for the front and rear of a braking system, the only thing I can think of is if the car is a stick the clutch MC cover got swapped with the brake MC cover. My 13 GS uses DOT 4 for the clutch, but I am not sure what GM calls for in an 89.

On my 89 they both say Dot 3.. I don't believe they had a Dot 4 back in 89...You can replace dot 3 with dot 4 without any problems.. You can even mix dot 3 and dot 4 fluids and the only change will be the boiling point will be lowered from that of only using dot 4......WW
