Default black plugs

Hello everybody Joe from Guam here.

I started and ran the 1985 Manual Corvette I am working on. The spark plugs are black after a few minutes of running. Presently the /egr is blacked off and the air pump is removed. I have a new chip but have not installed the chip yet. The timing is spot on. The O2 sensor, anti knock sensor and the temperature switches and sensors are not connected yet. The exhaust manifold is connected but not the pipes or mufflers I am thinking that I should connect them and then maybe the plugs will clean up. Any suggestions?

Thank you

I would definitely connect your O2 and Coolant Temp. Sensors.
That should clean up your plugs. Once the O2 and Coolant Temp sensors are hooked up the computer will go into closed loop (without them hooked up you are going to stay open loop rich) and then can adjust the air fuel ratio to 14.7:1.

grandspt, thank you for getting back to me on this. Presently the CTS is connected but virtually everything else is not. So I think thatvyou are correct. The CTS failed on my 1984 and it ran out of gas. The car was getting one MPG. Thanks again. I want to post some videos of the car, all of you have been so helpful. How do I do that.

Thanks again

Joe

Hi Joe, to post a picture just click the landscape icon which is next to the smiley EMOJI. Click that and then click Browse Your Device to locate the pictures on your computer that you want to upload. Then once you find the pictures click upload that should get the pictures posted.
