Most of my plenum/runner torx bolts are stripped so I want to replace them, I'm considering the set at http://www.alloyboltz.com/cgi-bin/al...talogno=A=5081 for $33 it includes the complete top half setup and they are allen-head bolts. But then I was thinking, can't I just use regular 'ol 6pt hex head bolts? Is there any reason why not other than the apperance or would this be a bad idea for some reason?
I'd suggest Allen heads, as getting a socket in some of those tight places will ge a big pain.
$33 is a lot for plain Ol Allen bolts. The local hardware store should have zinc versions.
I agree...Ive seen the bolts at a Lowes Super store where they kept their Automotive fasteners. They even had button head bolts which uses the allen type wrench. You can buy socket driver sets that have the allen key in them already too which helps installation alot.
Button heads look alot like the regular TPI bolts without being torx. But as always, use care as these and torx style seems to strip easy.
On trick I use is to push the rachet head forward with some muscle in it to keep the allen or torx bits from stripping out when going to loosen them for the first time.
Same for final tightening.
That TPI kit isnt bad on that site.Looks pretty good to me but you may be able to get the bolts you needfor a few bucks from a store if youre only needing the plenum pieces and not the entire set up.
:)
Just don't buy the cheap junk, no grade marking, bolts. You will be really po'd when you twist one off. You might check into what Jegs or Summit has to offer.
