Fuel pressure from stock 89 looks like 20-30lbs. Is this normal and can I add a inline high performance pump without flagging the ECM?
That's too low should be 40-45psi. You need to diagnose what's wrong with your fuel system. Maybe a clogged fuel filter, sock or a bad pump or Fuel pressure regulator.
Change the fuel filter if it has never been, or not recently changed, but I suspect your pump is dying. The FPR can go out as well.
You can replace the pump with a Walbro or other Racetronix unit, and if you do that, you need to do their in-tank wiring upgrade as well as their piggyback harness if youre adding any real pumping power over stock.
The ECM does not care, its designed assuming a pressure value, and uses a pulse width and an injector size in its calculations.
