Default Ignition questions

Hi all, I have a new to me 95 that I am getting ready to start doing some preventative maintenance on. I have owned a few corvettes in the past but never one with the Opti-spark. I have looked at the different suppliers for the distributor and they are all priced so differently. Which one is good? Price doesn't bother me to much I just want to do this job once with quality parts so I do not have to do it again or toss money in the trash can. I want to order the distributor, Wires, Plugs, Water pump, and anything else you guys know I should do while in there. Can you suggest what is a quality part and where to find? Mainly interested in finding out which distributor and water pump is quality parts, and finding out about the little things I don't know about that I will need when doing the job.
Thanks to all

Welcome to the world of C4. 95 is a great year for C4!

The Opti-spark distributor is one of those parts that you no longer want to replace for preventative maintenance. It's become one of those parts where if it aint broke you don't want to try and replace it.

Basically the opti spark system relies on a solid state optical sensor that was originally manufactured by Mitsubishi. But like many electrical components technology has overtaken it and the marketplace has left that generation of sensor behind and the OEM no longer manufactures it. There are some outfits that say they are manufacturing "new sensors" to the Mitsubishi "specification" but apparently not to Mitsubishi's quality standards. Finding a RELIABLE replacement for the "vented" opti spark which is what we have on our 95's is no longer a sure thing.

Spend an afternoon reading the most recent 40 - 50 threads on the opti spark and you will come to see what I mean. Assuming that yours is the OEM original that came with the car..... how many miles are on the car?

Why do you want to replace the OptiSpark? You've heard it before, and this time it's very true: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
