Default MT2500 Questions

I friend of mine offered to give me a MT2500 that he got on trade a long time ago.
He said it doesn't have any cartages or keys. And he can't remember what cords he has.

So I guess long story short I've been trying to learn about them. Seems like there are tons of different cords, cartages, keys etc. I'm totally confused what basis items I would need to make it work on my 1986 corvette.

Or if it is even worth messing with if I have to buy all the small pieces.

Any advice would be great

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Just the "brick" is very good. You will need cartridges and power and gm aldl cords just to find out if it works. If you had a MT2500 a spare unit would be good.

Go to a GM dealership armed with your scanner with a fresh battery and a box of donuts. See if one of the techs can lend you a cable they have and a cartridge so you can verify that it works. I'd verify it BEFORE buying any cables or modules. Or find the Snap On guy. He might be able to help.

I am not discuriging or discounting what others have said. If you can prove it works and get needed keys and cables for a fair price great. But I was able to get one on let go for $125. About a year ago. Just ran it offer up low end $100. Top end$450.+-

Here is what I needed for 89

first picture is adapter that you should have gotten with mt2500. It is cord that plugs into machine

2nd picture is same plug. This is the end that will plug into all other adapters. The other end plugs into machine

3, 4 and 5 are pictures of adapter that you need to plug into your car under dash on one end and the other end connects to machine. Number 5 shows where the power cord plugs into the adapter to provide 12 volt power. I found a number of the 12 volt adapters listed on amazon for about 20.00

6 and 7 show 12 volt power adapter needed 7 shows it plugged into adapter

8 shows the only cartridge you need

hope this helps

Mike

"IF" being the operative word.

Thanks for the pictures. They are very helpful.

What does the AC power cord on the side of the GM adapter do?

It’s not AC, it’s 12 volts and plugs into cigarette lighter slot to provide power for under dash adapter to work. You have to have it

I'm not sure why I said AC duh. But I got ya. I did not realize the adapter needed 12 volts.

If you get it working, you will love it. It helps you set min idle specs, and can provide you with real time specs while running

Check out Ebay for the connectors, cartridges, etc. I bought the whole set up, MT-2500 and assorted goodies AND manuals for $150 about 4 years ago.

Well I have an update. My buddy brought the scanner to work yesterday and gave it to me for free. But its a snap on Solus, not a MT2500.

For a quick search it seems this is the replacement for the MT2500. But the cables are the same...I think.
