hey everyone, sometimes on my 1993 auto, when accelerating, and not jamming the gas pedal hard enough it will bog and maybe downshift one gear instead of 2, or not downshift at all, the previous owner had adjusted the cable tension of the throttle because he was very conservative and never wanted full throttle, how can I reverse this myself? thanks for any help!
It is the TV cable you need to adjust. I think there is a tech tip in the C4 section of the tech tips area of the forum. My '95 is electronically controlled, otherwise I'd be able to advise the procedure (mine has no TV cable). Properly adjusted, it will make a world of difference in your car performs. :yesnod:
Yep, if the previous owner didn't adjust the TV along with the throttle cable, it's definitely out of whack. The adjustment is pretty simple actually...
- Remove the plastic housing over the cables
- Remove the foam insert
- Relieve tension on both the throttle and TV cable at the cables and make sure they're extended to their full length
- Remove the cruise control cable from the servo (make sure you note which hole it was in before you removed it)
- Take a 1/8" drill bit and insert it into the small round hole in the servo assembly (be careful not to make contact with the rear of the servo as you can damage the cable there)
- Rotate the assembly about 1/8 turn and hold in that position
- Insert a 1/4" socket extension through the servo (square hole)
- Torque to 71 in lb (if my memory is serving me correctly)
- When proper torque is achieved, lock the TV cable (flip lever down)
- Depress the accelerator pedal to WOT to make sure the cable slack is taken out
- Reinstall the cruise control cable
- Reinstall the foam insert
- Reinstall the plastic cover
