Mine has this too, still havent figured it out. It is annoying, but seems to be something more complex than just tightening a nut on the steering column....... My friend, who has a mustang, (figures) says his car has this too and claims all cars get it after a while. I call :bs on that one.
Sounds like you need to open the hood, start the car, have someone move the wheel while you investigate. Could be anything from the column, to the intermediate steering link to the Rack and pinion, to wheel bearings to tierod ends. Ya need to get down there and get dirty. :yesnod:
This appears to be happening to several corvettes of different years.. My car does this as well, and i know for certain it is my intermediate steering shaft. The shaft in the 84-85's was designed with plastic/rubbery bushings that lock two pieces into one. After years of wear an tear, the shaft finally shows signs of a lil play. The reason they were designed like this was to help prevent serious injury in a wreck.. I guess it allows the steering shaft/column to collapse instead of pushing it into the driver. You might also want to check the u-joints that are inline with the column and shaft. Sometimes these u-joints wear out and need to be replaced.. Hope this helps.. :)
