Denny, don't know if you are interested, but there is an LT4 383 stroker motor for sale in the houston newspaper. You can probably do a search on the Houston Chronicle web site and find it or email me and I will look up the ad and send the phone number for the ad. Says engine is fresh and has not been run since rebuild, AFR heads, Accel DFI included $7900.00 asking price.

i just helped a guy with the parts needed for this, eagle has a 4" crank for $649, scat makes a really strong 6" rod for $299, JE makes the pistons at $699 a set, do your machine work and your good to go. make sure you use main studs and a girdle if possible on a production block, those 4" cranks beat bearings.

In following the link there seems to be some question regarding rod length. Why would a 6" rod be less desireable than a 5.85 rod or visa versa. The 6" would give a better ratio... but what problems could it cause. It's only .015 difference. Not much either way.

Denny
The difference is .150. That is a considerable amount with long strokes. It will really depend on the block deck height. With compression heights of 1", you have to move the ring pack way up the piston to keep the pin out of the second ring. A thin ring would also be needed, probably around .043". Ring seal will be an issue on the street. You wouldn't want to run nitrous with a 6" rod and 4" stroke.

6" Rod
9.025 Deck - 1.025 piston compression height
9.015 Deck - 1.015 piston compression height
9.000 Deck - 1.000 piston compression height

5.850" Rod
9.025 Deck - 1.175 piston compression height
9.015 Deck - 1.165 piston compression height
9.000 Deck - 1.150 piston compression height

1" is considered the minimum compression height for a three ring piston.
