Springs for CC502
I have Comp 985 springs which are good for 0.600” lift, I believe. The cam I’m planning on is the CC502 which will land me roughly at ~0.530” to 0.560” depending on whether I keep my existing 1.7 RR or step down to 1.6 if it looks like I can’t get good geometry on the 1.7s.
The 985s are double spring, not a beehive and I have titanium retainers. The catch is, there’s about 10k easy miles on them (stock cam). Should they be ok reuse and a good match to the CC502? I plan on keeping revs at or under 6100 max. Or would this be bad practice?
I checked out the Comp website and it looks like they recommend the 915 or 918 springs for the CC502. I've decided to forgo my 1.7 rockers for 1.6 and picked up a set of steel 1.6 Comp Magnum roller rockers (1605-16).
Where I'm a little caught up is picking the 915 or 918 spring set. They're both beehive and comparable overall, with the 918s having a greater seat/open load.
915: 105/293
918: 125/367
I'm planning on using the recommended steel retainers (the tool steel and titanium stuff is $$$). I don't plan on revving beyond 6k. I like the idea of using only as much spring as needed to control the valve. Any advice on picking from these two?
