hi, 1985 corvette restoring interior...want to paint the metal interior door handles with SEM TRIM BLACK... i believe the handles are steel but not sure...they are quite worn but still have a lot of factory paint... is it necessary to remove all factory faint and to
use SEM self etch primer...my plan was to use: (1) SEM SOLVE (2) 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper leaving existing remaining paint (3) SEM SOLVE again then (4) TRIM BLACK. not sure whether i need to use self etch primer or not. thanks
i did mine by wiping with isopropyl alcahol and spraying them. i did them out of the car, i drilled the rivets out and replaced them after repainting. i may have used acetone and wiped it actually.
400 wet sand might be too smooth of a surface for paint to stick well, also i thought self etching primer is for bare metal.. just use red scotch brite pads and scuff it down smooth. i am sure they will turn out just fine
