Default Underdash light wiring; Ground?

I pulled my hush panel to find out why the light wasn't working, to find that my stereo shop completely destroyed every bit of wiring to the light.

After a lot of work, I finally have power restored, and it works with a ground jumper, but not with the wire that is supposed to be ground. So I need to run a new ground wire.

I'm going to splice into the wire for the fan switch(before the switch), so I'll have a solid ground. Is this going to cause the light to be on all the time?

I've been trying to figure out this electricity stuff for years, I almost have a grasp on it now, but lots of things are still beyond me. That's the reason that I take the car to stereo shops for electrical stuff that is beyond my expertise...I know one of these days, I'm going to find a stereo shop that employs high-school graduates, but so far, its not happening. :mad

Thanks in advance.

Ok, jumped the wires, closed the door, waited about 45 seconds for the lights to go off...and the jumped ground stayed on. :(

So the ground is switched and the power is continuous. :( Oh well...a little more work for me. :(

Ok, dug WAY up under the dash, and found the break. Repaired it, and Voila, I have a drivers side underdash light again.

Time to go see why the Pax door panel light doesn't work.
