Default 84 Dash Temperature Reading Erratically

Hi Guys,

I'm having a problem with the temperature reading on my 84. For some reason my reading will jump all the way from low to max every time I accelerate. If I coast it reads low, if I step on the gas it will gradually climb to the max of 299. I have replaced both the temp sender on the drivers side as well as the lcd panel in the dash. Any suggestions?

I know the car is for sure not overheating and the cooling system is working fine otherwise.

If you know "for sure" your car is not overheating, you have electrical and contact issues. Clean all contact surfaces and double check the operation of the sending unit. You would not be the first guy to buy a new unit that failed.

Sounds good, I will clean all of the contacts in the dash and on the sensor itself.

Check the hoses to make sure one isn't collapsing at higher rpm.
