a further question:
in this small video, which does explain part of the orienting, but not the pointed race direction, notice when he pushes the tob onto the fork it makes a good clipping sound. it gets held in nicely.
mine is super loose and will slide in and out. it doesnt look worn....the silver on my fork ends in the above photos is antiseize

The bearing part goes toward pressure plate fingers 
the point in the groove is to keep the entire throw out bearing from spinning on fork. I would place point at opening in fork.
