i had the tranny out for some repair and put a new clutch in and now when I get on it the shifter jumps up about an inch or so and bounces up and down when i touch the gas.
I've checked everything under there and nothing is loose...anyone ever have this happen before?

Ah, but something IS loose. Double check your torque arm on both ends. You need to be sure that these bolts are TIGHT. I've had mine come loose and I noticed it at the track. I noticed it and then started to play with it. I stabbed the gas and the tranny hit the bottom of the car! I thought that was a good point to call it quits. Tightened it up and had no trouble until the next time I had it loose.
I took the torque arm loose for something and I really thought I had it tight, but the jumping shifter told a different story. I got back under there and tightened the crap out of it and everything's fine again.

Motor and/or Tranny mounts.....
Get in the car and step on the brake and let the clutch come out slowly while in gear and have someone looking under the hood looking for the motor to torque and find what mount is bad.....
