its the first day above freezing in a week decided to tinker with the car! i went through the tech tips finally got her idoling better (850 in stead of 1300) i adjusted the tps to .55 couldn"t get it right at .54 unpluged the iac like the directions say. went for a test drive if you nail it from a stand still it will bog down and even died once right now the timming is a 6deg i tried timming anywhere from 2 up to 10 and it still bogs. i won"t be driving her this winter but would like to have her all fixed up for spring!!!!
could this be from the knock sensor not being hooked up?
i was thinking fuel pressure (to much or not enough!) when i tried to get codes the light doesn"t come on at all, ijumped the top right two is that correct? yes i disconnected the est wire but after i shut the car off plug it back in and start the car the computer takes the timming up off the scale. maybe a bad computer?
Does the SES light turn on when the key is on without the engine running?
If yes:
You should be able to jumper the two upper, right-hand side terminals with the ignition on and engine stopped to get a code 12--- one flash--two flash---
If you don't, you've probably got a bad chip or a bad computer. My '88 service manual says that you should "replace the mem-cal (chip) only after trying a replacement ECM, as a defective mem-cal is an unlikely cause of this problem."
Check lightbulb in dash first. Some owners pull them due to codes, and they don't want to look at the SES light all the time, so I would check the bulbs first.
You may want to veridy your timing marks too.......... these balancers slip sometimes and the marks could be off. The knock sensor would have helped if anything ......... and the timing will go off the scale that's there because you should have LOTS of advance with it plugged in........ I don't remember for sure but I thought 85s were supposedly timed at 8 before..... not 6....... but I don't think 2 degrees will affect it THAT much. :seeya
