Wow, another engineering nightmare once it gets older. If you think you can have poblems with the plain old timing chains stretching in a normal V8 just wait till those long ones to the cams start stretching.
I don't think this has ever been a problem on the LT5's, even the high mile ones. The double chain design may be part of the reason.

Wow, another engineering nightmare once it gets older. If you think you can have poblems with the plain old timing chains stretching in a normal V8 just wait till those long ones to the cams start stretching. 10 years from now us poor folks will have to spend a fortune at the dealership if something goes wrong with that engine. Same for the exotic suspension/transmission setups on the C5s. Asked an acquaintance about this and his answer was that he plans to trade his C5 every 2 years or 24,000, whatever happens first so he doesn't worry about it. He gave me that look of 'you can't afford one so why am I talking to you about this' looks. Thats why he is an acquaintenace and not a friend. I'll stick to my 89. I can almost understand it. :)
Um, you never take these engines to the dealership. They have no clue and don't want to learn. I'm doing the tear down myself. There are several ZR-1's with over 100k and no problems with the chains stretching, and there are a few approaching the 200k mark.

I've learned alot from doing this, and plan to help other owners of the LT5 in the PNW region as there is nobody up here that has done this.

Dave, the LT5 is a super stout engine. 300K is what I was told by Gordon Kilebrew to expect out of these engines. The nightmare will be finding parts because of limited supply [unless whoever bought the castings for these starts producing them]; and thats just because of limited production. I wouldn't be worried to let one bounce off the rev limiter all day long.

As for C5s, the suspensions are super simple to rebuild/tweak. Replacing the transmission is easier on it than on your C4. I know, I've done both.
