Oil Pressure??
What is the minimum oil pressure in an LT1 at idle? I've been messing with my oil system and it seems to be just fine when I push the gas but at idle it is a little low around the last tick mark on my oil gage before it goes into the hashed area.

6 psig? at idle, or there abouts. Ok, now just to make sure the gauge in my car is read in psig? I always thought it was just psi, what is the g?

From the Helms manual:
6.0 psig at 1,000 rpm (minimum)
18 psig at 2,000
24 psig at 4,000
I imagine these are all minimums. I think they're pretty darn low.

That really is low! Won't the oil pressure switch turn the fuel pump off at 4 psi?

The "g" just means "gauge". Or referenced to atmospheric pressure. It reads like you'd think it to read. Sorry for any confusion... we won't toss in absolute pressures to really screw things up :)

My oil pressure usally ran at 40 to 45 psi...but then I changed the oil to 20wt/40wt.....after this it went down to 29psi...???
Don't know why.....but I am going to change back to 20wt/50wt....my vette has 88k on it young.....running great...no problems....

Your oil pressure should be about 45-60psi at cruise, and half of that at idle.
If it drops below 25psi id be scared to death.

I would first verify the numbers. Install a direct pressure gauge, take some readings, cold, warm, idle, 2,000 rpm etc. Get the data points from a direct pressure gauge.
Then we have real numbers with little error for sending units, instrument error, etc.
Did this change occur after the cam change?
