I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Has anyone experienced any problems with the stock diaphram? Mine does not appear to be leaking. The FP will only go to to 55psi,but that could be ok. BTW,have a Walbro pump installed.
Where could I purchase the diaphram only?
Thanks in advance
Phil
I wondered about replacing the diaphram too, but I decided just to reuse it for now. I've noticed that MidAmerica lists the fuel pressure diaphram for $50. Part# 601-034. I imagine that you could also buy it through GM, either through gmpartsdirect.com or Jeff Kopp/Superior Chevrolet.
'Zone has them for about $20. Two years ago I put one in and it failed in 13 months (12 month warranty, of course), so I bought a NAPA one for $60 a year ago. It just failed, so I bought GM from Jeff. Be aware that GM only sells the complete regulator, so this is not the solution for an adjustable reg, but it does include all the fuel rail O rings, which was helpful since mine were a bit stiff after 16 years. Hopefully I'm good for another 16 years now.
I can't blame the diaphram, twice in a row - it must have been the way I reassembled it. I used the bolts to draw down the top each time and that must have stressed the membrane. Maybe the proper way is to bring the two halves together in a vise while making sure the diaphram is exactly centered?
First symptom to appear - car cranks and cranks but never quite catches until accel pedal is floored (clear flood mode), then huge cloud of brown smoke, but when it finally caught it seemed to run and idle fine. I thought it was a leaky cold start valve, since the regulator vacuum fitting was dry. A few days later the idle quality went to hell, it would want to die on decel, strong odor of gas, even longer crank time. Finally I was able to see gas spew out the vacuum fitting which nailed the diagnosis. I guess it took a couple of days for a pinhole to turn into a rip.
