Sometimes it will just activate.
Its happened at lower speeds going in a straight line.
No bumps, No fast cornering, No reason at all it should activate.
I'm scared its gonna lock the brakes or somthing while driving down the highway killing me.
Any ideas?
Hmm, mine does the same thing, no reason at all, just like a self test when driving. Only does it every now and then. I have no reason why? So far though I have had no problems out of it. I just ignore it now...
This may steer you in the right direction. Never had a problem with the Vette. Did have a problem with the LINCOLN. The ASR would activate by it self when ever it was in the mood. Took six weeks and a defiant dealership before I tracked it down. Seems one of the sensors or activating devices behind the rear rotors was bent out of alignment. Possibly hit a rock. Who knows? This was enough to throw the ASR system out of wack(for lack of a better word). Suggest you consider putting the car up in the air and take a very close look. Replaced the bent part and all is well.
Can you feel any change in directional control, ie, does it feel like the brakes are being applied on one side or is it more balanced, like maybe both sides are getting equal pressure and your not having to make any corrections?
Can you feel the ASR pushing back the throttle? Any change in engine tone as timing may change if the ASR module is commanding retard.
My initial thoughts are also associated with sensors. If you had access to a scanner, you could observe wheel speeds and try to spot any anomolies. If you want, let me know and I will give you the address and publication number for the GM/Bosch(?)ASR/ABS training manual, Corvette specific I believe. Good book. May help with your trouble shooting unless you get a code. Check there just in case. That one could be tough, intermittant, no service asr/abs light, etc. Maybe module, who knows.
