I need to know A what gauge the wires are, and B i know the wires on the switch are black... but what color are the wires that they connect to... i believe that they are green/white stripe and yellow... am i correct? Dont want mess up the wrong harness... thanks , my guy replaced the starter, and it still has sporadic starts.. and i got to push the dang clutch pedal almost through the floor... thanks friends....

Your switch may be out of adjustment, so you can check that. Assuming the switch is crapping out it's just a simple jumper. Mine was done a couple of years ago so I'm pulling this off the top of my head. The switch is up by the pivot point on the clutch pedal, reach up there and there are 2 wires with a push-on connector that connects to that switch. IIRC there's a tab on the connector that you press and the connector comes out with a simple pull on the connector. You need a short piece of wire (I probably used around 14 gauge as that's most of what I have on hand) along with 2 connectors (spade again IIRC). Crimp the 2 spade connectors onto the piece of wire, and plug them into the 2 wire connector you disconnected from the switch on the clutch pedal. Tie it up somewhere out of the way and you're done. This is assuming your 85 is set up like my 86 is.

Big thing to remember is that now you can engage the starter without pressing the clutch so insure you start it in neutral to be safe.
That's all there is to it.

One more thing. There is another switch about 1/2 way down the pedal, leave that one alone as it's the one that disengages the cruise control.

Default Thank you but,

Thanks for the information, that's great and all but what color are the wires that the two black wires ( coming from the switch) connect to? I believe it's green and white stripe and a yellow.... I do appreciate the help though. Please dont think I dont... my shop manual doesn't say exactly, and my wiring diagrams are in black and white.... dam shame they dont make that part anymore... cheers

Joe

Sorry I don't remember the colors, but there's only 1 connector that goes to that switch. Just follow the clutch pedal up to the point it pivots off the firewall and once you feel the switch there's only 1 connector that plugs into it. That's the one you want and from what I remember there were only 2 wires in the connector.
At least that's the way it was on my 86.

I think I found my answer . I forgot I had the PDF of my shop manual.... So yeah I was right the wires are heavy gauge and yeah the yellow is the hot and it breaks to the green white wire.... Thanks for all your help in locating it....
