Third gear sticks................
Especially when cold but can happen anytime. It feels like the gate is blocked. Any ideas?
Also, took the car to the track last night for the first time and I was so nervous about being locked out of third I accidently threw into 5th. This caused the clucth to slip and burn, smelled bad for two days...........
Bad synchro, maybe?

1. has the trans fluid ever been change?
2. do you have CAGS overridden?

I didn't realize you had a 6spd conversion.
a new #2 takes its place :D

I cannot beleive that going into 5th my mistake will hurt anything.

I suspect the trans fluid was changed when the motor was rebuilt 25k miles ago (by previous owner) but I cant be sure. They did a a real good job on the rebuild so I would think they canged the trans fluid when they dropped in the 6 speed.
It came from a '91.

I would make sure the trans fluid is up and clean.
cheap insurance.
the 91's are the best of the ZFs... they continually "improved" them to make them quieter, etc.
I would be surprised if you hurt that tranny...

My '86 coupe has a '94 ZF six speed conversion and does this too... except mine does it in third and fifth. It doesn't do it often enough that I see a need to pull the tranny, though. Mine has new GM MT fluid as well, I don't think that is the problem. I think the clutch can be ruled out too, as it is definitely limited to a particular gear. :confused:
