Has anyone been using their 4+3 as a regular 4 speed? Curious is it could present any issues.
Just got my tranny back in with a hydraulic TOB but I won’t be using the car’s original ecm (ls swapped) so I’m wondering if I can wire the overdrive straight to the battery with an in-line fuse or run it as a regular 4 speed if that’s not possible.
You can run the OD as an on off type. It's basically a gear vendors at that point. I've heard of people wiring it to a switch and using it only on the highway.

Gear vendors?
So the factory ecm just controls the od activation based off of temps and other conditions but I can control it rather simply via a manual switch?
🤔

It's on or off based on temp and the TPS. Its biased towards gears how far open the throttle needs to be to kick on and off. The early ones have a manual kick down cable too that overrides it at WOT. You'll lose the ability for it to down shift for you so the switch would literally be is it on or off. very basic system. You could actually hook it up to the LS ecm as the converter lock if you would like and then just have it come on above a certain speed and throttle position I'd imagine as well.

Edit: I forget if it is 12v or 5v though.
I’d be more than happy with a simple on/off switch at this point. I was just dreading the idea of cruising at 3k+ on the highway.
What about the coolant lines? I’m assuming I could rig up a smaller aftermarket cooler if I didn’t want to run the factory piece?
