I'm currently working to get an '85 C4 running again after sitting in my father in law's barn for about 15 years. I've replaced the fuel tank and sending unit, battery, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, and coil.
Even with the MAF disconnected, and cat and mufflers off since they were plugged up, the engine will crank and just briefly fire then stall out.
One curious thing I've found so far is that the TPS 5v reference is not showing any voltage when I check it with a meter. Any clues?
why did it get parked in the barn? was there an issue previously that hasnt been recitified. that would help us help u.
- are you getting spark while turning over?
- what is your fuel pressure while cranking
- will it fire briefly on starting fluid
- have you verified timing?

there are some ideas to get started
I've had success getting it to fire with ether sprayed into the throttle body and it'll run for a few seconds afterward. I'm pretty convinced it's a fuel issue considering that. I'm thinking about doing a circuit check on all of the injectors to make sure there aren't any opens back to the ECM.
your post reads you changed the tank and sending unit...not the pump??? on 85 schlader valve is on passenger side rail....
Oops, left that off the list, but I replaced the pump and fuel filter as well. I've also verified the pump runs and gets fuel up to the rail by shorting ALCL pin G to 12V. The ECM also seems to be controlling it correctly since it's running for ~2 sec after the last distributor pulse every time I crank the engine.
I'll see what I can do about a pressure check today. Thanks for all the feedback so far!
My 89 sat for 10 having same issue. I put new injectors fuel pressure regulator filter and flushed the system. Really thought the injectors would do it. Starts on ether but won't stay. It even acts like it's going to fire then nothing. Fuel pressure is good throughout.
Just to follow up, we got it figured out after breaking out a voltmeter and going through all of the sensors again. Turned out our TPS +5V supply was intermittently going very low or completely out, so we needed to swap the ECM. I found an rebuild AC Delco unit and replaced the ECM fuse with a fresh one and it ran immediately after.
Thanks again everyone for the hints. Hope this helps you out @Majic
