I'm at a point where my car is in need of some tuning... figuring the cost of sending my PCM to Ed wright for programming is going to run me 350 the 1st time out... and changes 150. This alone puts me in the price range of LT4 edit... and I can do all the changes I want then.
Now the million dollar question... has anyone here used LT4 edit/ODB-II programming or am I going to be a crash test dummy :)
If I go the route of LT4 edit, is there basic guide lines I can work from? For example, right now my car is throwing an SES light for misfires after I put the hotcam in the LT4 with stock programming. According to ed wright, they de-sensitize (sp?) the misfire pickup cause the hot cam has a tendency to set this code off more. Will there be something I can find what I need to tune to get rid of this?
(Never used LT1 edit or anything of the like, but I am a systems engineer so I know computers/progtramming well)
There are several of us with the OBD2 version of LT1-edit. It works exactly the same as OBD1 LT1-edit, but has the additional controls for the OBD2 tests (like the cat test / rear O2 sensors). Tuning takes a lot of time to do right. I'm definitely not an expert -- still a beginner. If you like playing and learning a new thing, then go for it. If you don't have a lot of patience and time, don't get it :) . There's a ton of info on carputing's web site. Their message board is also a good source for info and questions.
As far as your misfire code, raising the idle to 850 or so should clear that up. The misfire detection just senses irregular pulses in crankshaft speed, determines which cylinder just fired, and sets a misfire code. Since the idle is a little rough at 750RPM, the computer thinks it's misfiring. I actually just disabled the misfire test on mine.
The misfire is happening at all speeds... cruising down the road at 2000 RPM, idling... sometimes it will clear itself in minutes, other times its on for a good part of the day. It certainly does come on more if I turn the AC on at idle thou.
I mainly want it for the basics... idle, O2 removal when I get longtubes/no cats, fan speed turn on, etc then down the road a gear change.
And if i'm reading it right the cost is for 1 vehicle only?
