Hi guys, I have an 84 vette and I am putting the AC back together after the previous owner took it apart. I have changed both of the pressure switches and the system is charged with no moisture or leaks. I can jumper the compressor from the battery and it comes on and blows air but will not with the switch in the dash. Is there a relay somewhere that I may be missing? Everything seems to be working correctly other than the lack of power to the compressor.
Are you trying to work without an FSM? You should have 12 v. on the low pressure cycling switch when you have selected the a/c mode. If you jumper the pins in the low pressure switch connector, the compressor should run. Does it?
The next step:
With the jumper in the low pressure switch connector and the a/c on, do you have 12 v. at the high pressure safety switch? With the low pressure switch connector jumper in place, and you install a jumper in the high pressure switch connector, does the compressor clutch engage?
If you still don't have engagement, check the ground connection of your compressor clutch connector.
Since you haven't been able to have the compressor run, it's extremely doubtful that you have the correct amount of refrigerant in the system.
I'll say it again: You NEED a Factory Shop Manual (FSM)!
