Ran the '84 thru the emissions check here and failed. It is running fine, getting 15.7mpg(city), no mods, get a little bit of pinging when I jump on it. Here are the results of the test:
HC(idle) was 690.1 PPM, the limit is 220.0-failed
CO(idle) was 2.10%, the limit is 1.20-failed
CO2(idle) was 7.94%
Any ideas on what to check...Thanks
Fuel filter ...when was it last changed?
O2 sensor...when was it last changed ?
Temp Sensor...when was it checked or changed?
IAC...cleaned and reset
TPS...needs to be checked for voltage
Fuel pump....should be between 9-14 PSI
Injectors....Both fireing and not leaking?
EGR...working properly....
did you warm it up completely before the inspection? I mean, drive it 20 miles or so? if not, that will have a negative impact on the performance of the cat.
When was your last tune up? Oil Change? You say no mods, is all emissions equip still on the car? My 84 failed Texas test once, replaced the oxygen sensor, new plugs, new plug wires and oil change and it passed after that. Did you drive the car for appx 20 miles before going to inspection? Or did you have just a short drive from home to the inspection station? You want the car well warmed up and in operating temp before going in for inspection.
Thanks for the replies. I've had the '84 about 3.5 years, has 103k on it, it idles at 600-700rpm, it passed 2 years ago, fan relay is hardwired to run the fan all the time is the only thing I know that has been messed with.

I don't know if any of that has been replaced or not before I got it. I have not check anything yet, will be working on it this weeked, how would I check for stored codes? Thanks for the link.
Bogus & HWoods:
It was warmed up, I had driven it about 100 miles before being check, all emission equipment is on the car & hooked up, I put plugs, cap, rotor, coil & changed oil about 6 months ago. Whats the best way to check a cat? Thanks
