99% sure my 85 Z51 needs a master cylinder. Pedal creeps to the floor, rear reservoir losing fluid and fluid on the booster. Did a quick check and see no other leaks. Though I have no intention of doing any major brake upgrades even though I track it as often as I can I do want to put a good replacement on it. This car doesn't have ABS. I've priced them and it looks to be around $120-$150 depending on manufacturer. Low to high are Cardone, Raybestos, Centric, Duralast and Napa. Have a preference or another recommendation?
I've installed many master cylinders but is there anything quirky about installing this one? Just bench bleed as you would any other? Flushed and replaced all the pads and hardware a few months ago. Fluid looked horrible so I'm not surprised it failed.
You've got it on the how to, nothing will jump at you. the only thing to be aware of is I have had replacement parts not totally line up. either the replacement Booster or Master where not properly matched on the point were to two come together. so I drew them together that last 1/4" with the Nuts and the Plastic Booster cracked a week later. so make sure the Master slides to bottom by hand. if not hit the holes with a Rat Tail or dremmel for that Hair of clearance and don't over tighten.
The push rod between the booster and your new m/c needs to be adjusted to match the piston in the m/c. Here's a link to a recent post that might help. Read from post #4: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ent-again.html
