I just tried the link to their web site and for some reason it doesn't work. I'm going to leave it in tho because I know it's right and maybe there is just something teporarily messed up.

IF I just get a TH400 without the Overdrive for right now, Will the transmission still bolt up to the Torque Beam or whatever its called? The Beam that goes from the transmission to the Diff to support the weight.

No, a TH400 is shorter than the 700r4. So, the torque arm won't work. Also, the area on the tail shaft of the Vette 700r4 is machined to provide a mating surface for the torque arm to attach to. This tail shaft housing will not fit onto the th400. So, you would have to figure out how to make some sort of bracket to accept a torque arm being bolted to it. Then you would have to make a longer torque arm to reach it. And you would need a longer drive shaft, so that would have to be custom made. I think you should save your pennies and buy the Gear Vendors unit.

Yeah your right Bob I should just save enough untill I could buy the Overdrive unit. HUh I dont want my Transmission to fall out in traffic and scrape the road and cause even more damage when I'm trying to actually save $$$. Plus the Gear venders Overdrive Unit bolts up to a Corvette Torque Beam Right? (Just needs to be shortened) ;)

I put a TH2004r transmission in my Vette instead of the TH400/ 4L80e. The tranny's not the same but my installations problems were. Here’s how I addressed my challenge.
I made up a 1 x 2 boxed arm from one side of the frame rail to the other to support the tail of the tranny. I also welded a 1/4" aluminum piece on the end of the torque arm from the rear end to extend and mate up to the TH2004r. This has given more than enough strength and fits nicely. (Although the car is very dirty from a bad oil fitting on my external pump.) I have attached a couple of pictures. Sorry I don't have a pic of how it attaches at the side. An other Vette builder in town saw these and has made up similar frame rail brackets for the TH400's he puts in to his customers cars.
Hope this helps.

(After reading this, your probably wondering why anyone would put a TH2004r into a Vette. The TH2004r has a lot of work done to it with billet pieces etc. I freshen up my tranny every 3 years with no failures in between and my car runs consistent 9’s. It sees a lot of street and some track use.)

So you got a bar that runs from one Frame Rail to the other that Supports the Transmission? Then you have the TBeam also their to give even extra support? If I do this would a 1x2 with 1/4inch sidewalls or 3/16inch sidewalls be enough to support the transmission?(OF course the material is going to be steel not aluminum.)

Making up the side to side support was a little tricky but in combination with the rear aluminum "C" support it's very strong. Both the motor and tranny are mounted using the rubber bushings and the ride is vibration free. The sides are mounted using a short 1/8" thick plates welded to the 1 x 2 square cross piece, that bolts to the frame rail. Hope this helps.

Re: Turbo-400 trans. I put in the trans with no overdrive. Trans is built to hold 1200 HP. I had custom tailshaft housing made so I could bolt right into the 700 R4 mounts. Basically I had a tailshaft housing built with the length and internal bushings etc, of a 400 with the external of a 700R4. Works great! Bolts right in with no welding or fabs. My tool and die friend could make more of these as he saved the program in his CAD-Cam. Good Luck! :chevy

My trans was done by TSI Transmission Specialties Inc. inc Addison, IL.
Don Stanley is the Owner. Makes trans for the "Big Boys" in NHRA/IHRA.
His # is 630-458-0071. Tell him you got his Name from me. Don't know if that will help but It's good PR I guess. Also you may try Hipster in German Town Wisconsin. He makes Trans for guys with 1000 HP shots of nitrous and more.
He is listed in National Dragster, should not be hard to find. Hope this helps.
Let me know how it goes. Sounds like you are building a monster! Matt :chevy

Thanks Matt does the company have a website I could go to. 1100 is my goal but anything more than 700 on a supercharged Big Block would be just fine with me. :yesnod:

TSI does not have a web site to my knowledge. In fact Don has only one phone line, so if he's on the phone you'll get a busy signal. Not sure about Hipster. Don is good. He'll tell ya about all the big guys he builds trans for. The Last time I was in his shop, he was shipping a trans to Brazil! You will just have to call him. 9:30 am central time is a good time to call. The guys at performance technical center use Don as well. performancetechcenter.com
Feel free to ask if you need more info. Matt :chevy
