I'm looking to replace my clutch on my 95 Corvette 6 speed. Car is kind of a project, posted earlier about engine mods but due to cost, may have to put that off for about 6 months. In the meantime, need to replace clutch and am going to change exhaust system while they are under there. With the increase in hp I'm looking to get (430 or so] can I replace the current clutch that's in the car with the same? Will it handle it or is there another that I should be looking into?
Thanks
If you mean 430 at the wheels, that's a big increase. A stock organic clutch disk will accept that if you're really nice to it. But this means no drag launches and powershifts...and eventually it will fail. I would guess my car is around 410-420rwhp, and it has a stout midrange pull (i.e., it makes pretty high torque, which the clutch has to react). I went to a Centerforce dual-friction disk which holds it well.
For pressure plates, you don't have real options. They are all made from the stock-style OE pull-type unit, and they are all made in China. I guess Centerforce claims higher clamping pressure at high rpms because of the little weights they attach, but then again a good friend who used to run a shop modifying cars said they had lots of come-backs after CF plates failed because the weights came off. So that's a big nope for me.
So I'd just look for a reasonably priced kit with a dual-friction disk. Looks like Carolina Clutch has one for $350, and they say it handles 475rwhp. That looks like a good bet.
Zf6 doesn't have many options there is one disc it maybe rebranded but one. Flywheel resurfacing or aftermarket aluminum with replaceable iron inlay.. Zf6 input shaft os unique.
