I have a new complete Melrose header system to put on my soon new to me 383 engine from Jim Barth. Any favorite spark plug wire sets that fit well with headers? Or will a OEM wire set fit okay next to the header tubes?
OEM sets should be fine. I bought some wire holders/looms to hold them. I'm running MSD 8.5mm wires but ordered for my year. I don't need extra boots to go over them, you only have to have that if they start touching pipes.
On my 1968 C3 with its BB engine I use the MSD 8.5 wires. I just replaced a set of MSD wires after 20 plus years of service on my 427 in my C3. I have been very pleased with the MSD spark plug wires. I also have them on my 1988 C4 with its L98.
The headers I have on my 427 are large and they require the insulator covers over the spark plugs to keep the boots from melting on the headers. The even side of the engine has no problem but the odd side has plug boots right up against the header and those do melt there. It has to do a lot with how the spark plug comes out of the cylinder head.
I am using "higher than normal" compression which makes more heat than normal.
