hi all, today i was cruising along with my top up and my a/c blowing ice cold air as usual. suddenly it began blowing hot florida air. when i got home i did a code read via the climate control panel and pulled a 09 which means low refrigerant. judging by the fact that i have service ports that are shrader type i most likely have an r12 refrigerant system. i removed the cap on the suction side and depressed the stem briefly and got a pretty strong/short blast. that told me that i was not out of freon however, the condenser was not running. my question: is there a pressure switch any where on the system that could have failed isolating the pump and giving me the low refrigerant code? i remember on some of my older Chevy pickups such a device existed and u could jump it out and get the pump to run (not that a 93 is
a spring chicken). any tips would b appreciated. i always try to do my own repairs whenever possible because it is difficult find anyone thats any good.
im familiar with how a/c works having owned a plumbing heating and cooling business for forty years.
