Tried to start my 95 a few weeks ago, and it turned over, caught for a few seconds, then died. It had run fine a couple days earlier. We had a vacation planned and I had no time to look at it so I let it sit until last weekend. I tried to start it, and it did the same thing again. I got a hold of a fuel pressure gauge and connected it tonight. Turned the key on and the pressure only went up to 24 PSI, but it did hold at that pressure. Decided to try and crank it and it started again for a second or two, but the pressure went down to almost 0 and it died. Then no matter where I put the key, I could not get fuel pressure again. Any idea where to start looking? Do the pumps get weak or work intermittently sometimes, or should I look at something else. Opti has been replaced, and the car will start for those few seconds after sitting for a while, so I don't think it has gone out again. Should I go for a fuel pump, or what else should I check? Car was driven 800 miles on the Hot Rod Power Tour in June and ran great. TIA
start cheap and easy and work your way up. Fuel filter first, when did you last change it? If the filter is clear then its the fuel pump circuit (relay or bad connection) or the pump itself. Pump is not too bad to change, you don't have to drop the tank, it's done from the top. If you "hotwire" the pump with the fuel pressure gauge attached to the rail you'll know if it's bad or not.
