At TDC #1 the engraved timing mark on my crankshaft damper is way retarded. Could the outer damper ring have spun? Put my own mark on damper at TDC and it times out just right. Anyone else with a bad damper???
Re: Crank Damper Timing Mark Misalignment (Five Window)
The dampener has been known to move on drag engines. On a street engine it is unlikly to have moved. If it has moved, it is time for a new dampener, as the rubber has dried. i.e. It is no longer doing its dampening function. How sure are you that it is a stock setup?
Yep, get a new damper. Had one on a big block chevy truck and it had moved about 2" and backward about 3/8" before I noticed it (was grinding shiny spots).
Re: Crank Damper Timing Mark Misalignment (Five Window)
Yes....change your damper...since you are going to do it anyway......get a hi perf. damper like a fluid damper...can only help your engine absorb unwanted
vibrations....even a low performance engine...very cheap insurance... http://www.jegs.com or http://www.summit.com
good prices for quality pieces.....that is what I did.....and I'm happy about it....
