Alright, heres the deal this time. After i changed the AC system on my car, my rad fan started kicking on as soon as I turned the key. I guess its a short or something. Well, now i dont hear the fan kicking on. Makes me wonder, is it broken or is it working right? It is kinda cold down here right now in the 60's. Ok. Heres the Q. What normal temp should the fan kick on at, like 225? When i hit the AC, shoulnt it turn on no matter what temp? Also, can i just runa jumper from the battery to the fan to test the motor, should be a 12 volt fan. Thanks for the help you guys. :smash:
Q1. Stock setting for my 86 was 230* (give or take 1-2 degrees)
Q2. Yes, as soon as you turn on the AC, the main radiator fan should turn on.
Q3. Should be able to or you can jump the AC fan switch by unplugging the smaller AC head pressure switch plug on the highside tube.
There should be 2 wire harnesses near the exhaust manifold on the passenger side of the car. It is the smaller one of the 2. If you can take a pic of those harnesses, I can circle and post the switch. If I had a camera, Id take a pic for you and show you. Sorry. Ill try to take a pic later if no one else has chimed in.
Gid, do you have a service manual of any kind, Chilton or Haynes. They have trouble shooting info on the fan in there. IF not, I can post it later tonite at home. I had problems with mine and it was the hi pressure switch on the ac unit. It kept burning out fan relays when it went bad.
