I have a question...Ive slowly been getting my 85 Vette back in shape after a 5 year stint in storage- she's smogged and runs pretty well- however on Friday I took her for a longer drive on the freeway and got stuck in some pretty bad traffic due to an accident... my engine fan worked properly but i think after almost an hour of stop and go traffic she was getting over heated- the accident traffic lightened up but as i accelerated to get going i lost power..poof..everything.. i was able to get it started again while moving forward and i got to the side of the road and it died... i have power,, it cranks but wont start...check engine light on.....fortunately the CHP from the accident stopped and got me flatbeded home.. so all you experts... suggestions? my shop said i could have fried my starter due to over heating.. thoughts?
If it started the starter is not fried, but something sensitive to heat is. The alternator may have given up, or the ICM which is under the rotor may have given up the ghost..One other thing is that if you hear a humming from the fuel pump(after sitting) area it may have went out. Mine did.
Use a paperclip and get the code, I will guess it is for misfire.
GoodLuck
i'd check the fuel pressure. first thoughts - sound like you lost the fuel pump. heat and stop and go traffic has nothing to do with it - probably just a coincidence. these things go without warning. since it cranks, it's not the starter.
