Default 1984 Corvette 500hp?

What is the likelihood that I can get a 1984 crossfire up to 500 horsepower with a 383 stroker and renegade intake?

I like how intake manifold sits inside the hood and have heard a few good things about the crossfire but I am I going to have to abandon it to reach my hp goal?

That will be a TALL order. You are looking to get about 250% improvement out of an engine that was never designed for that much power with out tons (read $$$$$$) of money.

Yes, higher compression pistons will help but the L83 engine "choke" point is in breathing.... air in and air out.... meaning..... heads. If it were me, I'd skip the bottom end build and get a great set of heads.

The renegade is a great set up and don't forget headers/exhaust and a better flowing heads. You will really wake your car up and have something very livable.

I don't know the flow numbers on that intake, but I'm inclined to think it might flow enough with the right throttle bodies. My question would be how well it will port match the heads you'll need in order to make that much power. I'm not sure whether you mean 500hp at the crank or the wheels, but at a minimum you should be thinking AFR 195 Comp heads. How well do the ports on that intake match up with those heads, and is there room on the intake to get them closer?

Those pistons with 2 valve reliefs means that the wrist pins are centered in the pistons, so they can be used "upside down" on one side of the engine. Offset wrist pins (which requires 4 valve reliefs) will reduce friction during the power stroke, and give you more power. That's the purpose of the "notch" in the front of pistons that have 4 valve reliefs.

500 fwhp, you will need properly matched parts to reach your goal.

-Well built 383
-New engine management system, and wiring.
-280XFI Cam or something in the similar range.
-AFR 195 Heads
-Roller rockers
-LT1 intake or Mini Ram Intake
-Fuel Injectors to match combo.
-Throttle body to match combo.
-1 3/4 headers
-True dual exhaust
-Stall converter
-Dana 44 with gears

Those items won't help you reach 500 hp, but you'd better plan on a bunch of mods to your drive train. You'll be destroying a lot of parts before you get it built strong enough!

Well if you want to make big HP from a crossfire it’s probably worth talking to buccaneer. I have a friend ben73 who has an 84 with a crossfire that makes about 430hp and does 12.00 quarters (maybe high 11s). I think that’s about as much as you can get out of a crossfire (without going stupid) unless you put it on the bottle.
Mine has heads, cam, renegade, and EBL ECM. It makes no where near 500HP but it is a whole lot of fun.
