As I am driving, the car surges rpm, not bad, about 3-400 rpms and back to normal. Its like I quickly hit the gas pedal, but doenst jerk the car. It does it about 10 times in about 30 minutes of driving. Fireston told me I needed to replace the Ignition Module and pickup. Read my fireston thread for that debackal. Does this seem like it could be the problem?
Yes it does sound like an ignition problem. Id check the plug wires, dist cap and rotor, coil and pull the plugs to see whats going on. Could also be a MAF sensor.
Dont just throw parts at it, check those plugs first.
mine was doing the exact same thing when my fuel pressure regulator was bad. Take yours out and look at it. Mine had little tears in the rubber membrane which was letting excess fuel in. If it is leaking your car should be running rich too (you can tell by the strong gas smell in the exhaust) if so changing it is easy it is a $40 part and only takes like 30 minutes to change.
How hard is it to change the fuel pressure regulator? Looks pretty involved
Not hard at all, you should only need basic hand tools to do it, with the exception of a small torx security bit you can get for cheap at most auto parts stores. Really all you have to do is take the air intake ducting off and unplug the maf (1 screw and 1 plug), disconnect the throttle body (4 bolts), take the cable mounting assembly off of the side of the plenum (3 bolts), then take all the big t-40 torx screws out of the top piece of the plenum (i think there is 5 or 6). Then you can easily access the fuel pressure regulator. I think there are about 6 bolts going around in a circle that hold it down. Just unbolt the old one, put in the new one, and reverse the steps to install it.
Shouldn't take you more than an hour to do it your first time and that includes a couple of beer breaks.
