Shifter drops slightly (moves) when engine bogs? Hurst shifter -->
For some odd reason, my shifter has started moving whenever the engine bogs. An example of this is if I come to a complete stop at a stop sign at the crest of a hill (or a hard 1 to 2 shift near redline while going up a hill). As I left off the clutch, the engine will bog slightly and the shifter feels like it drops about an 1" as the engine is bogging. After the engine is done bogging, it pops back up. The feel is annoying when this happens too. It makes the drivetrain feel less solid.
I have never had this problem before, and I should mention after I installed the hurst shifter, everything was fine. So at least I know it worked for a little while. I have no idea why it started doing this.
I looked at my motor mounts, driveline support beam, the **** that extends out the back of the shifter boot and is supported by a bracket attached to the tranny.....everything looks fine. In fact....if you put a jack under the tranny and jack it, the whole car moves....theres no looseness or play in my drivetrain....
If anybody has any ideas. I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.
This is caused by either a bad tranny or motor mount.... or both
Bring it to a shop to get it checked out, unless you do stuff yourself... Then have someone sit in teh car, with one foot on the brake letting the lcutch out slowly in 1st gear.... as your are looking under the hood for which mount it is.... becareful obviuosly......
I would check the tightness of the bolts in the torque arm. Both at the transmission and at the differential. I know you said you checked it already, but this was the case on a friend's ZR1 and my dads 93 once.
My vote goes to the torque beam. You can make up some "plates" for above and below that will dramatically increase the bearing area on the beam. You can also buy them from the "ZFdoc". Make sure that the trans and the diff are at exactly the same angle so that you are getting the beam flush on both top and bottom.
