Newby with a C4
im in Austin TX New to this forum but active on others.
just picked up a 93 Ruby Red with both tops with 38k miles
just want to say that I am really in love with this Corvette Its in excellent shape and drives well As far as I can see it is completely stock
only issues I have at this point are:
1-trying to understand how the security/alarm/phob thingy works..
2- ocasional "pop" from speakers..
3- driver's door panel little loose at the uppet corner near handle, Im guessing from slaming door for 16 years
I will try and tackle these slowly
right now just want to introduce myself (Chuck) and say hi, and enjoy this forum and hope to count on ypur wisdom as I will surely need it sooner or later
thanks
When I removed the right door panel off my 1988 C4 coupe I found they frequently used these little Whitish plastic Anchors. These Anchors "pop in" and allow you to put a screw in it securely mounting the Door panel. Getting the old ones out was a bit challenging.
I apologize as I am not very good at putting pictures online here....You can probably find a replacement locally. The GM Part # is: 1377030. They cost $2.99 for 4 pieces at ZIP if you want to order them.
Those are what the Plastic Anchors look like and they refer to them as "Door & Console Side Panel Plastic Anchors" at ZIP products. They are very available at local auto parts stores. It would not take long but suggest that you replace all of the anchors while you are at it. It will take a few minutes longer and you shouldn't have to do it again. Once the passengers door is nice and tight you will look for time to do the drivers door. If the drivers door is fine now leave it and wait for a reason. These anchors are really useful and handy to have around. GM has used this same part from 1968 through 1996.
This will help you on the way to solving the loose door panels!
Best regards,
Chris
P.S. Ditch the factory alarm, they were primitive. They make the parts needed to disable it. I disabled the Key needing the resistance chip. If you need an alarm buy a modern one... Good Luck!!

Due to the nature of materials used, makes repairs difficult at best.
If the panel is really in bad shape consider buying a reproduction panel. Not cheap.
But well worth it.
thin tin from a vent stack plus snips to cut to shape glued in with weldwood DAP (use the dap correctly, gets almost dry to touch before pressing sides together for insta bond) will reinforce what is likely cracked and is very easy to repair.
