Default Big mouth base ?'s

Are there any big differences in the different brands (edlebrock, accel, TPIS, ect.) of intake manifold bases. Just curious cause I have been looking and noticed some are consistantly cheaper than others.

the accel and TPIS are the best, the edelbrock is still better than stock but the accel and TPIS are finished better in the ports and also larger. if i were you i'd buy the accel or TPIS. ask around for dealers on here, the accel is available under $400.

This topic came up about a year ago on a third generation F-body site and it was stated by alot of people and if I remember right confirmed by someone from Edelbrock that the TPIS intake is made by Edelbrock for TPIS and is the same intake as the Edelbrock except for the TPIS logo cast into the top of the intake and then TPIS ports the inlets of the intake.
It was determined based on this that the Edelbrock intake would be the best buy and then to port match the intake yourself and have the same intake as the TPIS which is supposed to be better than the Accel.
I don't know my self but remember reading this as I was in the process of building a TPI motor for my GTA at the time.
Hope this helps

anyone have pics of the edelbrock next to the accel? there is a noticable difference showing why the accel is a bigger manifold

They are all more or less the same. The TPIS one is a rebadged edelbrock with porting at the runner inlet to take larger runners. It is very easy to do yourself. I use the big mounth on my car which i bought new for $400. If was going to do it again i would look for a used manifold at a good price (of any of the three availible ) and clean it up to match your runners. I would also look for used ASM runners for the best combo in my opinion

I agree, all 3 basically flow the same numbers. Just port match the intake entrys with the runners and port match to the heads.
The best runners available are from AS&M but they are not cheap.
Look for a set of used AS&M runners, the best being the semi-siamised runners as these help bridge the gap between the short runner of the superram or mini-ram with the LTR.
The AS&M large tube runners are also a great choice just does not flow as well at the higher RPM as the semi-siamised.
