Default C4 LT guys please help!

Long story short I wasn't present when the intake and oil pan were removed and now I was just handed a bucket of bolts and studs.

Can anyone verify or post pics of the proper location of the 3 studs for the intake base bolts and the 4 studs for oil pan rail?

I found a couple of pictures from when I tore out my 95 LT1 that show the studs for the oil pan. They are used to attach the two small heat shields that cover the knock sensors. I can't find any intake pictures right now, but I'm pretty sure at least one of the studs goes on the rear driver side to hold the EGR solenoid bracket. I'm sure others will chime in with answers. Good luck!

Regards,
John

Sweet thanks! I figured they had something to do with the knock sensors.

The LT-4 doesn't have EGR but Chevy might have still used the stud and just didn't bolt anything to it. I think one or 2 might be used for the cruise control. Hopefully someone can chime in.

You can find service manuals with bolting diagram illustrations for Camaro & Firebirds to download here: https://www.mediafire.com/?40mfgeoe4ctti
It's a large 130MB download but it has the illustrations for the LT1 bolting of intake and oil pan. For my '94 camaro it's in secton 6A3A. You might get lucky with the'96 manual download and find LT4 instructions but I only looked at my '94 manual.

So it's hard to describe but the intake uses 3 studs on the driver's side and 2 studs on the pass side. The oil pan seems to use 3 studs in only 3 corners.

Sorry but I can't capture these illustrations using my tablet but I think this should get you in the right direction.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks I'll take a look, but sounds like the Bird is quite different from the Vette. I have only 3 studs for the intake, 2 of 1 size and 1 slightly longer. Then I have 4 studs for the oil pan besides the normal larger 4 corner studs. So 4 large and 4 small.

"B" = Bolt. "S" = Stud.
Passenger side, beginning at front:
B, S(long), B, B, B, S

Driver side, beginning at front:
B, B, B, B, S, B

EDIT/ADD: I suspect the passenger side forward stud is for an air/cond compressor brace. If the "longer" of the 3 studs is the stud part, I'd put the long one here. The other 2 studs, if used, are probably for sheet metal brackets, and wouldn't need to be "longer". In my experience, yes it's nice to get the locations correct the first time, but it's not too big a deal to swap a few around to where they need to be as the engine goes together. I've never had a problem with intake gaskets from moving the bolts prior to the engine being run. They aren't fussy.

I didn't do any digging to see what they are used for. Neither of my C4s are LTx engines, so I can't go look. Sorry. Perhaps the above will help.
Nice job buddy! Thanks very much! Yes the one stud that's longer is only the top part. Yeah I agree it's not too big of a deal, I'm just very picky about hardware and torque specs. It kills me already that I can't torque the headers...lol

The 4 on the oil pan are for the knock sensor shields. The 2nd one from the front on the intake on pass side holds down the crossover tube and evap sensor bracket. Rear on pass side holds wire protector for AIR exhaust tube. Then I have one on the back driver side with nothing attached.

From my 1992 SM. Probably very similar.
Note stud on oil pan corner if auto, bolt if manual.
