It will drop in and run. I don't know if there is much difference from '86 to '87. There is probably a bit more timing in the '87 chip as its for aluminum heads instead of iron. Do you have an '87 chip you're thinking of putting in or are you looking to locate a better stock chip?

There is a 87 chip for sale I was looking at. Im have trouble getting my 86 to run right and I thought to maybe try a new chip.
The chip is not very likely your issue. The stock chip will run the car just fine. Do you have any trouble codes, a check engine light? Does your car have any modifications?

No codes or light. It seems to run rich. It surges in drive but yesterday I put it in reverse and put it to the floor which I never did before and it spun the wheels like crazy. In drive it starts to spin then bogs hard picks up again then bogs again. Could I have a trans problem? This car is driving me nuts.
My key on pressure is 40# and running engine at idle 32# last checked. Should the running pressure be 43# or just with the key on? I do have new injectors, regulator, filter and fuel pump. The car sat for 10 years before I got it.
It will be less while running with the vacuum line on. The regulator is vacuum referenced. Pull the vacuum line off with it running and see what the pressure is and to see if the regulator is leaking thru the diaphragm. A leaking diaphragm can cause a rich condition. I understand the frustration with the new parts in it.
Problem solved today after a bunch of new parts and a lot of testing the issue was the T.V. cable. It is the cable that is on the throttle body that people on the forum do not speak of much. My cable was as loose as it can be so the cable basically did nothing and my torque converter in the trans was not getting the right pressure. With it properly adjusted I cannot stop my 25 year old tires from spinning unless I let off of the gas. I know the tires need replaced if over 10 years but now that I am running might as well have some fun first.
The throttle valve cable is a big issue and should be checked on all L98's
Thank you all for the help
