I'm looking at doing the opti and figure to replace the water pump at the same time. Does anyone have any experience with either the CSI pump or the Mezeir pump? I can get the CSI for about sixty dollars cheaper!
I installed my CSI about 1.5 weeks ago and have been very pleased with it. Solidly built, easy to install. Just know that with the CSI and not the MEZ you have dremel out some on your water pump housing.
Hmm, I didn't know the CSI requires any modifications.
I've never really heard anything good about the CSI. I don't remember what the exact comments were but they weren't nice. That being said I know one guy who has one and thus far he has had no problems with it. I also know about 4 people who run the Meziere without any trouble too, so who knows. I'm running the Meziere but that doesn't mean the CSI is a bad pump.
The local speed shop told me to avoid the electric pump on my street driven car simply because at higher engine speeds, the mechanical pump will pump more coolant than the electric would.
I have had a Standard Meziere pump on my mostly street driven, Texas living, LT1 for a year now. I have had no problems, but have noticed that the temp does climb while stopped in traffic on 100F days. While doing autocross (about 1.5 minute laps), the temperature was fine, temp was like driving around town.
There are 2 types of Meziere pumps available, a standard and heavy duty version. The heavy duty is a bit longer, supposedly a better pump and about $30 bucks more expensive.
If I remember correctly the meziere flows about the same as a stock pump at 4k rpms. Above 4k rpms the mechanical pump has advantages. So, I think this would NOT be the best pump for road racing, but for low speed, around town and down the drag strip and autocross it works fine. I will try to track down numbers, but I think that the Mezeier pumps 3 times as much coolant at idle as the stock mechanical.
Here is a nifty circuit I scrounged off the internet, that can give you the ability to turn on the pump manually (like at a track) as well as provide warning LEDs that the pump has failed.
I've had both and the Mezerie is far better. A more powerful motor and far superiour impeller. The price is close to the same, but quality of the two is not comparable.
Meziere is what I went with. My only problem was the seal leaked that you are suppose to reuse. So I recommend getting a new one from The dealer before you install the pump. I use to have the part number but I have now lost it. It is simply called a water pump seal though. Its a couple bucks and well worth it. :yesnod:
